Five stars for the hardware. I've been using this external drive for a month now, and it was simple to set up and performed well straight out of the box. It reads and writes blu-ray, dvd and cds swiftly and reliably. Excellent hardware.

The docking of one star was because I'm not so keen on the packaged Cyberlink software, though this may be because I know my way around the Magix package I'm used to, get everything I need from it, and can't see any advantages in going through a lengthy learning process without any obvious gains, - and indeed some losses of flexibility.

This response is going to depend on your specific use, of course, but my initial use has been to put my digital photos onto blu-ray slide shows. I am used to the fully controllable 'Pan and Zoom' features of the Magix software which, if used intelligently, greatly enhances the viewing experience by giving subtle movement towards or away from the main subject, allowing you to 'tell the story'... 5.0 out of 5 stars Durable blu ray drive, 23 Dec 2011

I bought this drive after reading various reviews from other online sites. i can confirm my money was well spent. the drive is perfectly built and looks durable on top of that buffalo company gives you 2 year warranty. i think its worth buying. blu ray discs are getting cheaper everyday. could make a nice new year present.
The drive comes with software and is easy to install. if you are using windows7 or vista the drive will find the drivers automatically and you only need to install software. it takes quite long time to load software a bit annoying. once done all runs perfect. and the power lead has on/off power switch in case you are a light user like you will save on energy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Buffalo Blu-Ray Burner, 16 Mar 2012

I have been burning Standard DVDs for several years on both PS's and Apple computers and wanted to take full advantage of the full capabilities of my High Definition camcorders to output High Definition video from my Apple Imac to a Blue-Ray Disc. Owning an Apple Imac I was sceptical if an Imac could readily produce a Blu-Ray Disc after reading several stories of how difficult it was on an Apple mac to burn Blu-Ray discs without buying the exact Blu-Ray burner and owning Roxio Toast Pro (For the burning process). But I have to tell you that all the deception is a myth, if you have an Apple Imac and use Final Cut Studio you will have NO PROBLEM AT ALL burning Blu-Ray discs of your High Definition video straight away. I have used Compressor (Part of Final Cut Studio) to burn a Final Cut Pro movie straight to a Blu-Ray without having one hitch and the result was fantastic.

If you own a Apple Imac or other Apple computer and own Final Cut Studio you can use Compressor to burn... Read more
